Our Statement of Faith
1. The One True God
We believe in the one true God, creator of heaven and earth, who exists eternally as three persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; each fully God yet each personally distinct from the other. (Genesis 1:1, 26; Matthew 28:19; John 1:1,3; 4:24; Acts 5:3,4; Romans 1:20; Ephesians 4:5,6; II Corinthians 13:14)
2. Scripture is Inspired
We believe that the Bible is the Word of God, fully inspired and without error in the original manuscripts, written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, and that it has supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct. (II Timothy 3:16; II Peter 1:20, 21)
3. Deity of Jesus Christ
We believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son, conceived by the Holy Spirit and was born of the Virgin Mary. We believe in his sinless life, miracles and teachings, and that while he was here on earth that he was both fully God and fully man. We believe in his substitutionary atoning death, bodily resurrection, ascension into heaven, perpetual intercession for His people, and personal visible return to earth. He is now seated at the right hand of the Father as our advocate and mediator. One day he will return to consummate history and to fulfill the eternal plan of God. (Matthew 1:18-25; Luke 1:26-38; Romans 9:5; Titus 2:13)
4. Image of God
We believe that all people are created in God’s image and matter deeply to Him. Central to the message of the Bible is that God loves people, and invites them to live in communion with Himself and in community with each other. (Genesis 1:26, 27; 3:1-24; Romans 3:25; 5:12-18; I John 1:8)
5. Salvation and Regeneration
We believe that apart from Jesus Christ, all people are spiritually lost, and as a result of sin deserve the judgment of God. However, God gives salvation and eternal life to anyone who trusts in Jesus Christ and in His sacrifice on his or her behalf. Salvation cannot be earned through good deeds or human effort. It is a gift that must be received by humble repentance and faith in Christ and His finished work on the cross. We believe that those who repent of their sins and trust in Jesus Christ as Savior are regenerated by the Holy Spirit. (Isaiah 53; Matthew 20:18; John 3:16; Romans 3:24-26; 5:1; I Corinthians 15:3, II Corinthians 5:21; Ephesians 1:7; I John 2:2; Matthew 28:6; Romans 10:9 and I Corinthians 15:14)
6. Ordinances of the Church
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ has given two ordinances to the local church: Believer’s Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. We believe baptism to be the immersion of a follower of Christ in water as an outward symbol of an internal reality, reflecting the death, burial, resurrection and the finished work of the cross. We believe that the Lord’s Supper was instituted by Christ for commemoration of his death. We believe that these two ordinances should be observed and administered until the return of the Lord Jesus Christ. (Acts 2:28-41, 47; Matthew 28:18-20; I Corinthians 12:13; Acts 2:42-46; I Corinthians 11:23-29 )
7. The Holy Spirit
We believe in the Holy Spirit who came forth from the Father and Son to convict the world of sin and to draw people to Christ. We believe that the Holy Spirit fully indwells every believer in Christ at conversion, and that he is an abiding helper, teacher, and guide and gives them spiritual gifts with which to serve the church and reach out to a lost and needy world. (Acts 2:28-41, 47; Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 8:36-40; 10:47; 18:8; Romans 6:3, 4; I Corinthians 12:13)
8. Sanctification
We believe that the Holy Spirit sanctifies those that put their faith in Jesus Christ. It is realized in the believer by recognizing his identification with Christ in His death and resurrection. We believe that Christians should live for the glory of God and the well being of their fellow man, that they should strive for their conduct to be blameless before the world, they should be faithful stewards of their possessions, and that they should seek to realize for themselves and others the full status of maturity in Christ.
9. The Church and Its Mission
We believe that all Christians are members of the body of Christ, the one true church universal, a living spiritual body of which Christ is the head and all regenerated persons are a part of. We believe in the local church, consisting of a company of believers in Jesus Christ, baptized on a credible profession of faith, and associated for worship, work, and fellowship. We believe that God has laid upon the people of the local church the primary task of expressing the Gospel of Jesus Christ to a lost world.
10. Religious Liberty
We believe that everyone is responsible to God alone in all matters of faith, that each church is independent and must be free from interference by ecclesiastical or political authority, that therefore Church and State must be kept separate as having different functions, each fulfilling its duties free from dictation or patronage of the other. (1Peter 2:4,5)
11. Marriage and Sexuality
We believe that God created marriage to be exclusively the union of one man and one woman, and that intimate sexual activity is to occur exclusively within that union. We believe marriage was created by God. Marriage is tied directly to our foundational belief of God as creator who made us male and female. (Matthew 19:4-6)
12. The Last Things
We believe in the personal and visible return of the Lord Jesus Christ to earth and the establishment of his kingdom. We believe in the resurrection of the body, the final judgment, the eternal joy of the righteous, and the endless suffering of those who reject the salvation of God. (Acts 1:11; I Thessalonians 4:16, 17; John 5:28-29; I Corinthians 15; II Corinthians 5:10; Matthew 25:31-46; Revelation 20:4-6; 11-15)
